Wreath of Time

Gezelle supplemented the publication of his Collected Poetical Works of 1892 with a new collection. Tijdkrans is conceived as a poetic book of hours arranged according to the cycles of the day, the year and eternity. It contains both innovative lyrical nature poetry and occasional poems written for his Courtrai environment. This is the reason why Gezelle missed the quinquennial State Prize for Dutch Literature that was won by Virginie Loveling.
