Gezelle translated the historical novel The little Duke by Charlotte Yonge in his magazine By the Fireside.
In 1866-1867 Gezelle published his translation of the historic novel The Little Duke (1854) in Rond den Heerd. It was originally written by Charlotte Yonge, a successful author from the Oxford Movement. The story deals with the youth of Richard I the Fearless, who becomes the third Duke of Normandy after the murder of his father. With the help of the Vikings he manages to defeat his persecutors. Afterwards the story was also published in book form.
