Thérèse Hubertine Abels

Thérèse Hubertine Abels was born in Roermond as the daughter of François Joseph Abels and Anne Gertrude Smeets. At the age of 19 she married Michiel Antoon Hubert Beltjens, a watchmaker and former brewer, on May 13th 1862. By then she was a shopkeeper’s daughter. However, her first husband died in 1870. She remarried on August 25th 1875 to Peter Jozef Scherpenseel in Sint-Joost-ten-Node. At the time they were living in Schaarbeek, but she may have travelled with her husband to South-Africa afterwards.
