Savina de Gourcy Serainchamps

Gent 17.07.1825 - Loppem 07.09.1912

Savina’s father, Félix Joseph Xavier de Gourcy Serainchamps married Mathilde Dons de Lovendeghem in 1824. The family brought up five children, Savina being the eldest daughter. Savina was married to baron Charles van Caloen on 21.04.1846 and they also had five children together (among them were Maria, Savina and Jozef van Caloen). The couple ordered the building of the castle in Loppem (1859), by the master builders Edward Pugin and Jean-Baptiste Bethune. It became a centre for artists, intellectuals, writers, prelates and converts.
