Rijkaert Carette

Meulebeke 08.02.1846 - Koolskamp 04.09.1909

Rijkaert Carette was the son of the farrier Désiré Carette and Sophie Ducarin. He started teaching at the Saint Louis college in Bruges (11.09.1869-03.03.1883). In the meantime he was ordained priest in Bruges on April 2nd, 1870. After his teaching career he became curate in Koolskamp (03.03.1883) and priest in Jonkershove (17.09.1890) and Otegem (27.03.1894). He resigned on October 14th, 1905 and stayed in Koolskamp. He wrote articles for Rond den Heerd (By the Fireside), a.o. on potatoes. In 1905 he published the booklet De eerste invoer van aardappels in Europa (The first importation of potatoes into Europe).
