Pieter Baelden was the son of Jacobus Baelden, farm labourer, and Amelia Berge. He was a co-seminarist of Gezelle. After his priest ordination on February 3rd, 1855 he was appointed teacher at the college in Veurne (1855) and Kortrijk (1857). In 1857 he published an Essai sur le beau, dedicated to bishop Malou. He became curate in Harelbeke on March 29th, 1872 and worked as a parish priest in Westnieuwkerke from October 26th, 1881 until his death.
