Leonard Nuttin was ordained priest in Bruges on 3 March, 1849. He attended the primary school teachers’ school in Leuven in order to get specialised in pedagogy and languages. He worked as a teacher at the college of Saint Louis in Bruges (1850), the college in Tielt (1851) and the college in Ypres (1852-1863). As a teacher he collected and edited Flemish fables in view of school education : Nieuwe Fabelen (New Fables), 1857, and Nieuwe Vlaemsche Fabelen (New Flemish Fables), 1860. He became curate of the Saint Jacob’s parish in Bruges, parish priest in Bossuit (22.06.1870) and in Zarren (14.09.1876). He was also a school inspector for catholic schools in the deanery Diksmuide and board member of the Davidsfonds branch in Kortrijk.
