Karel Callebert, son of Franciscus Callebert and Joanna Lefevere, shop keeper, studied at the minor seminar in Roeselare (1853-1860) and subsequently at the major seminar in Bruges. On 25.09.1863 he became a teacher at the Saint Amandscollege in Kortrijk. He was ordained priest in Bruges on 19.12.1863. He was appointed chaplain consecutively in Koekelare (03.12.1871) and Torhout (16.12.1875) and pastor in Houtem-bij-Veurne (24.03.1886) and Blankenberge (04.07.1888). Callebert contributed in writing to Rond den Heerd and published Jan Onraadt (Bruges, 1867), Paul and Isabelle (Bruges, 1873 and 1877) and Godefried and Roeland, drama in five parts (Roeselare, 1883).
