Julius Leroy, son of Augustus Leroy, farmer, and Rosalia Coene, was ordained priest in Bruges on 7 June, 1884. He started teaching at the college of Saint Louis in Bruges on 9 January 1885. Subsequently he was appointed curate in Wulpen (23.09.1889) and parish priest in Staden (21.10.1910). After his resignation on 20 July, 1933 he resided in Veurne. He regularly published in Gezelle's magazine Biekorf (Beehive) and compiled old stories in his eight-volume series Zeisels en vertellingen (Talks and Tales), in the second edition of which he included a Gezelle gratulation letter.
