Cyriel Vanden Berghe was born in 1857 as son of a carter. After studying in Leuven he was ordained priest on 18 December, 1880. During a few years he was a teacher at the college of Saint Louis in Bruges (16.09.1881-05.09.1887) and subsequently became director of the catholic schools in Meulebeke.
He became a parish priest in Zerkegem (11.09.1901) and Ichtegem (19.06.1908) and was eventually appointed dean in Tielt (11.12.1911). He resigned in 1934 and became chaplain of the Sisters of Mary in Pittem.
