August De Geetere was born in 1839 as the son of Theresia De Geeter, lace maker in Bruges. Among other things he studied philosophy at the minor seminary in Roeselare (1858-1859) and was consequently taught by Guido Gezelle. He was ordained priest in Bruges on January 4th, 1863 and became a teacher at the colleges of Diksmuide (26.09.1863) and Oostende (26.09.1864). From September 27th, 1870 until September 26th, 1874 he was supervisor at the Saint-Louis College in Bruges. At first he was appointed curate in Tielt (26.09.1874) and later priest in Brielen (20.05.1885) and Oostrozebeke (12.11.1890). He resigned in 1908 and died in Bruges in 1911 after a long and painful disease.
